The most convenient time to visit Moscow is Russian public holidays

01.04.2014

Mr. Sergey Shpilko, Chairman of Moscow City Committee on Tourism and Hotel Industry, said at the presentation “Tourist summer in Moscow” held at the “INTOURMARKET” Travel Fair that public holidays (Christmas time, New year and May) is the best period to visit Moscow. Long holidays and vacations means low season for Moscow hotels whose principal clients are businessmen coming to Moscow to conferences, exhibitions and the like. May holidays are also very good because a spell of warm weather usually begins.

Mr. Shpilko pointed out that Moscow had increased its attractiveness for tourists in last three years. For example, during summer months a room in a 4*hotel costs only 10-15 Euro more than a room in a 3* hotel because it is a low season for business-class hotels. Now Moscow boasts 125 hostels (56 of them opened in 2013) and 335 mini-hotels. Now accommodation price for groups in this category starts from 450 rubles (10 Euro) and from 800 rubles (20 Euro) in 2* hotels.

Holidays in Moscow become more economical and for 1500 rubles (30 Euro) per night it is possible to have an accommodation, transfers, excursions because Moscow features many free sights of interests, pedestrian zones in the historic center and inexpensive business-lunch offers.

Only three years ago Moscow position in tourist ratings was “terribly” low. Now it holds a 14th place for an evening out and overnight stay for two people in a 4*hotel among key tourist cities in accordance with TripIndex Cities-2013 and a 15th place for a most affordable city among European cities in accordance with Backpacker Index-2013. RBK placed Moscow among 10 most beautiful cities of the world and HolidayChick.com recognized Moscow as the most hospitable city in Russia. Moscow may also be considered quite safe for tourists because in 2011-2013 there were only 32 offences against tourists.

Now Moscow has a multilingual transport navigation which make it easier to find a way around the city. This year city-tours gained an additional water component: two intermodal “bus-river” routes were developed. With a two-day ticket a tourist can travel on a bus with a sliding roof, change for a riverboat and then back on a bus using an 8-langauge audio guide. The central Moscow boasts additional 30 kilometers of pedestrian zone. A new tourist information center opened in Vnukovo. First phase of reconstruction of famous Moscow recreation parks — Gorky, Sokolniki, Bauman and other was commissioned. New museums and art centers are opened. Former industrial zones were converted into 10 clusters of art, design and fashion centers. World hotel brands are dynamically moving into the capital’s hotel infrastructure.

The Moscow City Committee on Tourism and Hotel Industry supported new events, among them the “Circle of light” festival which welcomed over 3 million viewers, summer festival of historic reenactment “Times and epochs” in “Kolomenskoye” park with 220 thousand guests, festival “The Spasskaya tower” in Red Square with over 80 thousand tourists and Moscow citizens, “All-embracing carnival of fire” in “Setunsky stan”.

Among other interesting sights are the Korolev complex — the well-known Ostankino TV tower promoted as a tourist attraction by a young dynamic team, and the “Space Moscow” sightseeing program (Moscow planetarium, Museum of cosmonautics, Vernadsky State geological museum, Zvesdny town) presented by the Moscow tour operator Atlantis Line.

Welcome to Russia! Enjoy your Moscow!
