The head of Rostourism and representatives of the Iranian delegation discussed issues of mutual cooperation in tourism. For further promotion of the national tourist products the parties agreed to participate in leading travel exhibitions held in Iran and Russia and organize promotional tours for the press and tour operators.
The meeting between O.P. Safonov, head of the Federal Agency for tourism, and the delegation from the Islamic Republic of Iran (IRI) was held on 14 January 2016. The Iranian delegation was led by deputy head of Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization (CHHTO) of Iran Mr. Rahmani. Among other participants in the meeting were staff members of the IRI Embassy in Moscow, representatives of airlines and tour industry of Iran, director of the tourism related educational institution.
Both sides focused on a special role of tourism in strengthening intergovernmental ties and mutual understanding between the people and assessed the available potential if the Russian-Iranian cooperation in tourism sector.

As a result of the summer charter program in 2015 (flights from Tehran to Moscow, Sochi and St. Petersburg) the incoming flow of Iranian tourists grew twofold. Regular flights between Moscow and Tehran are estimated to grow from 5 to 9 per week resulting in the increase of estimated number of individual tourists (8 charter weekly flights between Moscow and Tehran are currently announced ).
Security —related issues at IRI resorts were of special attention. The Iranian side stated that strict measures are taken toprovide tourists’ security.

Considering the growing interest of Iranian tourists to travel in Russia the Iranian side expressed their concern in facilitation of visa formalities.
Issues related to possibilities and specific features of organization of beach holiday in IRI were discussed. A representative of the free economic zone Kish Island dwelled on the available tourist infrastructure.
The Iranian delegation informed about readiness to build a transport hub in Russia for transit passengers travelling from Iran to Europe and America. Iranian experts believe that millions of transit passengers may travel via the RF territory.
The meeting concluded with exchange of presentation materials describing tourist destinations in Russia and Iran.
